Let us start our story here with the Creation of the Seireitei. It is a somewhat interesting story, with a bit of info, therefore I must tell you.
The was found by the Three Men. Their names are Kurei Zinkai, Gidori Vandor, and Yagashin Kinora. This happened because they were kicked out of the Soul Soceity mainland. Therefore, they made the Gotei 13, their own creation. These were very dangerous and reckless men. They got the job done even with these traits. They went and built the walls and things. This wasn't much work, since they wanted a roof and walls over and around them. This was long before they had the squads. When Hollows attacked them, they defended their home and it went like this for awhile. This wasn't bad, but they got lonely, and they did need more people, as the Hollows were attacking constantly. They sneaked into the Soul Soceity, and put a poster up. It said this.
Seireitei. Come if you need work. Swordsmen only.
Everything is made and for the people. It's free to live here.
We can't pay you. But, we can provide you with the necessity for life and the thrill of battle.

The news of the poster spread around and at first, very few came. The few were the ones who hated life there the most. They built their houses and fended off the Hollows. This kept happening for a while, a few at a time came, some left but rarely lasted to get back to the SS. They built this into a true home for Shinigami however how old and or experienced.
While they had numbers, the numbers of Hollows increased. A lot of these people weren't experienced enough to fight more then 1 or 2 Hollows at once. After a long while, the Seireitei was getting too big for it's britches. This made them put the inexperienced people to guard the Seireitei. This caused numerous amounts attacks more then usual. The trio whom originally started it began a war against the Hollows.
This war went for 37 years. Kurei was the last one standing at this point. He knew that if he tried to take out all the Hollows he could, but it would also take him out. He sat in his home, looking down at the floor. He did a quick chat with his Zanpakuto, Hidori. They decided to sacrifice himself in an effort for this to be a home for future Shinigami that managed to stumble upon this place. He got up from his chair in his house. He was alone, and could release his full power to kill the Hollows that now surrounded the walls.
He drank some sake and went outside and went straight into Bankai. He fought and fought for 6 days straight, or at least that's the story. He managed to win, with wounds and upon wounds, and completely out of energy, it's said to be that he collapsed and died at that spot.
Well, Rumors are going around that the Soul King is actually Kurei, it's just a petty rumor, it can't be true, right?
After another 50 years a small group of people went into the Seireitei and lived there. They found all the artifacts and legends of all the dead soul reapers that haven't been heard of for the last 50 years. They joined together and recreated the Gotei 13 and made a whole academy for other souls to enroll in to become soul reapers. They would be properly trained for many decades. The hollows haven't been a problem any more since they were exctinct from the SS and Seireitei. The only hollows were in the world of the living. They sent soul reapers out to keep the world of the living safe form the hollows. The Seireitei and SS thrived for centurys, they made a peace contract and are now together as one, the Seireitei being the capital...
