(Any people who are giving the captain rank from November 5, 2012 to November 15, 2013 do not have to take the test.)
To become a captain you must have Bankai(The one exception below) and you must battle any captain if there are open spots. If all the spots are full you must fight and defeat the captain of the squad you wish to govern in a sense. once you have done that you are now the captain.
You do not need Bankai for a captain rank, but you do need to be a vizard. and to become a captain with vizard and no bankai you must take a 1500 word RP test to control your mask form with out any problems. And of course battle a captain 1v1.
